October 2025 Rotation

I think a monthly roundup of the listening would be a fun thing to introduce to the page. I think it would let you guys get a better insight into my current tastes and possibly give some personal recommendations from my monthly track rotation.

October’s been a busy month for me, I’ve been working loads and starting to feel a hell of a lot more wintery. The majority of my listening habits have been just from walking to and from work, with the occasional album listen to check out new releases. I’ve also been forcing myself to listen to some different stuff as I’d found myself in a bit of a musical rut, so ot speak. I find myself hitting shuffle on the same playlist made in 2023 time and time again, so some new tracks were 100% in need. Okay, now for what I’ve been boomin

Based on my Last.Fm stats it looks like the Beatles were the top artists of October, which, to be honest, is no suprise. I’ve been on a huge binge with them. I want to even say there was a two week stint only listening to Rubber Soul and nothing else. Despite that album at one point being my main knowledge gap in the discography, it has grown to become one of my favourite albums. The track I’d particularly like to highlight is “Wait”, a jangly pre-LSD track typical of this era of the Beatles. I’ve found this song to be a real earworm and wanna pass that onto you guys lol. Also, FUN FACT, this song was actually from Help! but it was cut and only re-added to Rubber Soul to hit a Christmas release for the album

Up next is Tame Impala, and I wanna chat about the early track “Expectation” from by faaaar my favourite album, Innerspeaker. I’m not quite sure of the pipeline that has led Kevin Parker away from Psych Rock to mainstream white wash pop, but oh my god, it’s a fall off that needs to be studied. Anyway, not to sound too pretentious or negative, but this track is great with a catchy intro riff, fun sing-along vocals and the typical phasery spacey sound. The main thing that’s had me revisiting this track is that it’s been popping up one or twice in the current tour’s setlist. Let’s just hope he plays it when I see him next summer! Also, the outro jam is sick. I just really hope he gets a sense of his old self back, especially after Deadbeat.

Next, I wanna chat about Normal Village, a regular name on this page that I doubt needs very little introduction by now. Their Debut EP “Pile On” dropped earlier this month, and it’s sounding BIG, in the best way possible. I’m gonna recommend the blow ur socks off track “Bereft”. This track has been played at all their shows since I first caught wind of the folks back in 2023, so I’m over the moon to finally have it on free roaming material lol. This song packs a big punch with some crazy time signature drums and guitar work. It’s genuinely really impressive. I think they’ve knocked it out of the park.

Cool, now onto “hardcore” legends Turnstile. These guys made it big this year with the release of Never Enough, which was a massive commercial success for the band. Anyway, I was lucky enough to score tickets for their Manchester Show a couple of weeks back at Warehouse project of all places?? Besides that, the show was really really good with both the band and the crowd giving full 110% energy (I’ve got bruises to prove it lol). Personally, the standout track from the set was “HOLIDAY” from 2021’s Glow on. This track had me shouting at the top of my lungs, and I loved every bit of it. i would definitely recommend everyone catch them live if you can.

What would my October be without chatting about Geese. Their third album, Getting Killed, dropped late September to a crowd about 1500x bigger than any of their previous work. The growth this band have had with this album cycle has been insane. They’ve gone from playing 350 cap venues in the UK to selling out an entire UK academy tour in seconds. Whoever runs these guys’ marketing must be so smug. I’m gonna say the title track, “Getting Killed” is the main one to listen to if you want to get a grasp of the album in one track. It’s noisy and messy, but it mashes together to build a banging rock song. I don’t know if I’m the first person to draw comparisons, but his album compared ot thier prior work is somewhat Trout Mask Replica-y in its sporadic guitar riffs, mish-mashy composition and random nonsensical lyrics with an out of syncopation delivery. This has been a true 10/10 album for me, and I’m so glad these guys are getting the love they’ve deserved for years.

Anyway, that’s 5 songs I’ve been on this october. Hope there’s at least something on the list you can enjoy. I do wonder if next month will start to have the odd one or two Christmas songs in the last.fm list lol
